Trees Grow Big
You may not realize this, but your trees grow a little bigger every year. While it is pretty easy to see new growth on small and young trees, even the oldest and largest trees on your property increase in size on an annual basis. It's just harder to see or notice the growth on them. They grow a little wider, a little taller, and the trunks expand a little more year after year. And like all the other growing plants in your landscape, routine maintenance pruning is a good practice to keep.
Routine tree pruning is the best way to help your trees live long, healthy lives in the stressful urban environment. Tree pruning is also vital in protecting your property and keeping your trees considered an asset rather than a liability. Deferred tree pruning can lead to encroachment on buildings, development of irregular growth, abundant deadwood, and increased wind-sail.
It should be noted that, depending on tree species, proper routine tree pruning occurs every two or three years. This time frame has many benefits to trees. First off, since pruning usually requires climbing up into the canopy of a tree, a certified arborist can get an "eyes on" evaluation of the tree canopy and identify any potential issues that may not be observable from the ground. Second, routine light to moderate pruning does not result in nearly the same amount of responsive growth that can occur with heavy pruning. Less routine, heavy pruning creates stress and when done, deciduous trees, like Maples, Oaks, Plums, etc. typically respond with rapid water-sprout growth that can lead to other structural issues.
Most importantly though, with routine tree pruning your trees will look great and be healthy. So give us a call today to schedule a free consultation with one of our Certified Arborists. We would be happy to come and discuss best practices for pruning your specific trees. We look forward to hearing from you.
